A world-scale integrated ammonia and urea fertiliser complex with production capacity exceeding 2 million tonnes per year. Orascom Construction served as EPC contractor, delivering the complete facility including storage tanks, utilities, civil works, structural steel, mechanical installation, piping, and electrical and instrumentation systems.
Double-wall ammonia tanks are the most demanding class of field-erected tank there is: an inner tank in low-temperature steel holds refrigerated ammonia at around −33 °C, an outer tank provides full containment, and the annular space carries insulation. Every weld in the inner shell is a cryogenic pressure boundary, and the erection sequence has to hold dimensional tolerance across both shells simultaneously.
Mechanical responsibility
- Fabrication and erection of two 30,000 m³ double-wall ammonia storage tanks
- Fabrication and erection of one 15,000 m³ double-wall ammonia storage tank
- Fabrication and erection of nine process and storage tanks in carbon and stainless steel
- Structural steel erection
- Tank farm piping networks
- Ammonia refrigeration skids
- Ammonia transfer and process pumps
- Mechanical construction supervision and coordination
